How SLOJOURN picks its properties
So, What makes the cut, and why does it matter to both of us?
There are a million places to stay… and then there are the places that stay with you. We’ve all stayed in chain Resorts where the overwhelming feeling of same-ness lingers. That niggling voice that says ‘no matter which country I’m in, the room feels the same as the last’.
At SLOJOURN, we’ve built a travel platform for people who don’t just want a good bed and a nice breakfast. They want that indelible feeling of meaning, of stillness, of beauty. Something to stir the soul and maybe even shift the way they move through the world.
In a digital world full of listicles and “eco-chic” tags, it can be hard to know what’s real. What’s genuinely committed to doing better, and what’s just borrowed the language of sustainability, design, or ‘intentional travel’ because it sounds good in marketing copy.
Introducing….us. That’s quite literally where we come in. SLOJOURN is a highly curated, human-led platform for the seekers (ew, but seriously); the ones who crave refuge in the wild, but don’t want to sacrifice comfort, character, or consciousness to get there.
Every property on our platform has been handpicked because it embodies the SLOJOURN ethos:
Stylish, chic, purposeful and conscious.
That means no greenwashing. No design-for-design’s-sake. No luxury without soul.
The way Olive feels at Soneva.
The way Izzy felt at Rakxa.
We’re obsessed with the in-between details - the energy of a space, the story behind it, the way it invites you to be instead of just do. Our selection criteria might not live in a spreadsheet (we’ll to be honest, it does, because we are organised icons), but they are rigorous.
Here’s what our properties have in common:
They’re rooted in place.
You’ll find locally made furniture, indigenous materials, and design that draws from the land around it, not imposes on it. The best ones feel like they couldn’t exist anywhere else. They give more than they take.
We champion regenerative stays over “low-impact” ones. That means solar energy, rainwater harvesting, upcycled materials, local employment, and community partnerships that go deeper than lip service. They feel good to be in.
This is the “chic” part. The textures are natural, the linens are soft, the playlists are right. These are places that take design seriously, not to impress, but to create a sensory experience you actually want to slow down in.They’re run by real people.
We know the founders. We know their dog’s name. We’ve sat at their kitchen table or walked the land with them. These aren’t faceless brands. They’re passion projects brought to life by people who care deeply about why and how they host. They move at a different rhythm.
This is about pace. We don’t care how many Instagram followers a place has. We care how it makes you feel. We choose properties that help you disconnect from the noise and reconnect with nature, with community, with yourself.
Filling the space no one else is.
Travel has never been more saturated. But for all the glossy visuals and SEO hacks, something’s missing. That editorial rigor. That human voice. That feeling you get when someone with great taste whispers, “Trust me - stay here.”
That’s what SLOJOURN is.
As we’ve already said, it’s not a booking engine, it’s a portal. A lovingly curated collection of rare finds and real stories for the slow, the curious, the design-conscious, the environmentally awake.
We’re not the first to celebrate conscious travel - but we’re doing it with more edge, more depth, and more discernment than anyone else in the space.
Places that inspire you to slow down — and maybe, stay a little changed.
