You’re dreaming at…
Roukh Kiri
Thailand
A hillside hideaway where design minimalism meets earthy farm soul
𓇼
WILDLY PLACED: In the foothills of Khao Yai National Park, Thailand’s first UNESCO World Heritage nature reserve and a living Eden of wild elephants, limestone cliffs, and monsoon forest.
EDITORIAL VIBE: Picture an off-grid alpine atelier reimagined in rural Thailand. All moody stone, wool throws, lemongrass steam, and horizon-soaked solitude. It’s slow cinema for the soul.
CORE PILLARS: Organic farming, vernacular Thai architecture, zero-waste dining, elemental elegance.
MUSE MOOD: She sketches barefoot beside the fire, bottles morning mist in her notebook, and dresses in oat-toned layers with soil under her fingernails and wine on her lips.
BEST TIME TO GO: November to February, when wildflowers bloom, the air is crisp, and golden light lingers over the peaks.
THE LOOK: Japanese-inspired barn suites, mountain-view terrazzo baths, natural linens, handmade pottery, and fern-lined paths.
WHO’S IT FOR: Lovers of slow living, architecture nerds, poet-chefs, and anyone who finds God in the fog.
INDULGENCE SPECTRUM: From USD$250 per night with breakfast and the art of presence included.
Roukh Kiri feels less like a resort and more like a monastic design poem, a place etched in silence, shaped by stillness, and softened by stone. Twelve stone-and-timber villas cascade down the ridge in a meditative rhythm, each one built to disappear into the mist and honour the land it touches. Designed by Bangkok-based studio Onion, the architecture is whisper-quiet but deliberate, letting views, shadow, birdsong, and mountain air do most of the talking. Nothing screams here, everything whispers.
You’ll rise to birdsong and the scent of morning dew, stretch into the light as it spills across raw timber floors, and wander barefoot down fern-lined paths to a breakfast of handpicked herbs and garden eggs. Afternoons might unfold as slow explorations of the organic farm, hands muddy and heart full, or a Thai cooking class in the open-air kitchen, where local ingredients are infused with ancestral memory. Other days are spent wrapped in a wool throw by the fire, journaling to the crackle of flame, glass of Khao Yai Shiraz in hand.
The food is sacred here. Daily menus revolve around the land’s natural offerings. Lemongrass, avocado, rosemary, mango, chilli; each dish an ode to what’s ripe, what’s real. Recipes are shared like stories, meals are eaten slowly, often with fingers, always with reverence. There is no rush, only rhythm.
Roukh Kiri is a temple of slow presence. A quiet rebellion against speed. A retreat that doesn’t distract, but distils. And a place that dares you to taste the in-between. The space between breaths, between bites, between days that no longer blur, but bloom.
ROUKH KIRI’S BEATING HEART
Where morning fogs kiss farm beds and cling to the edge of your tea cup, where design doesn’t just deepen breath but anchors the soul, and silence becomes a language of its own, far more eloquent than any signal or screen. Here, even the wind moves with intention, and every stone feels placed not just by hand, but by philosophy.
The SLOJOURN spark
FIRST. Mountain meditation - silent sunrise session overlooking jungle canopy, anchored by herbal tea and mountain mist.
SECOND. Forager’s feast - morning walk with the gardener, harvesting the day’s ingredients for your private lunch.
THIRD. Vineyard twilight - visit a nearby organic vineyard, then return for a candlelit degustation menu, fire-kissed and paired with Thai varietals.

Mountain View Villa
Each of the 12 villas is a cocoon of contrast, cool stone and warm timber, shadow and light, open air and grounded stillness. Designed to blur the line between dwelling and landscape, they draw inspiration from traditional Thai barns and Japanese teahouses, combining understated elegance with elemental textures. Expect hand-carved furniture, low-set beds dressed in raw cotton, and open-plan layouts that breathe with the rhythm of the hillside. Rain showers open to panoramic jungle views, and thoughtful tea corners are tucked into each villa like soft, secret invitations to pause. Evenings hum with cicadas and candlelight, mornings are filtered through mist and quiet. Each space is not just for resting, it’s for remembering how to be still.

The art of living
Roukh Kiri is a place where time evaporates. Mornings are unhurried, conversations stretch like warm light, and afternoons are spent lying on sun-warmed stone. There’s no schedule, only pulse. Let the fog lead.
The forever lens
-
ENERGY: Villas are designed with passive cooling and natural airflow in mind, reducing the need for artificial air-conditioning. Energy-efficient lighting and a minimalist footprint help further reduce consumption.
WASTE: Organic waste from the restaurant and villas is composted and returned to the on-site gardens. Guests are provided with glass water bottles and refillable amenities to reduce single-use plastic.
DESIGN: Materials such as reclaimed wood and local stone were chosen for their low-impact and regional authenticity. Architecture by Onion Studio prioritises low-energy principles and blends with the natural contours of the land.
FOOD: Ingredients are sourced either from the property’s organic gardens or from nearby farms and markets. Menus change with the seasons, minimising food miles and encouraging sustainable dining.
The together lens
-
LOCAL LIVELIHOODS: Roukh Kiri supports the local community by employing residents from nearby villages, as well as sourcing produce and supplies from Khao Yai region artisans and smallholders.
CULTURE: The guest experience includes guided walks through Khao Yai National Park, farm visits, and Thai cooking classes rooted in traditional family recipes, helping preserve cultural knowledge.
EDUCATION: Through its immersive farm experiences, Roukh Kiri encourages guests to reconnect with food systems and ecological cycles. Their slow-living ethos also nurtures awareness around land stewardship and conservation.
