Some places pamper. Turtle Island restores.

Anchored in the remote northern Yasawas, Turtle isn’t a resort, it’s a relationship. To the land, to the sea, to the self. With only 14 bures and a 2-to-1 staff ratio, the experience here feels less like hospitality and more like being enveloped in the rhythms of a village that knows your name before you’ve arrived.

Each bure was handbuilt by Fijian craftsmen using native hardwoods and vernacular design. High thatched ceilings, woven mat walls, and canopy beds wrapped in linen speak to a grounded elegance rooted in place. Open-air showers, ocean-facing daybeds, and locally carved furnishings complete the invitation to slow down and feel held.

Days begin with barefoot walks across powdery sand or paddleboarding across still lagoons. You might learn to reef fish with a Fijian elder, plant a tree in the regenerative forest, or sail to a private cove where a candlelit picnic awaits. Guests are each assigned one of 12 private beaches to explore undisturbed, your name engraved in driftwood as if the land has chosen you too.

Dining here isn’t scripted. With 80% of produce grown on-island or sourced from surrounding villages, meals reflect the land’s generosity. Grilled walu, wild greens, fresh coconut cream, and wood-fired breads, served on beachside decks or deep in the garden under a canopy of stars.

But what truly defines Turtle is Vanua - the Fijian worldview that binds people to land and lineage. Staff are not just employees; they are caretakers of story and place. Guests are welcomed into that story with genuine warmth, and often return year after year not for the luxury, but for the feeling.

Turtle Island doesn’t dazzle with spectacle. It dissolves armour. You arrive carrying the weight of the world. You leave carrying salt on your skin, softness in your chest, and the quiet knowing that you’ve just remembered something ancient and essential.

TURTLE ISLAND’S BEATING HEART

More than a place, Turtle is a pulse. Built by Fijians, sustained by Fijians, and shaped by Vanua, every element - from the shade-grown produce to the hand-laid paths - moves in reverent rhythm with land, sea, and soul. This is not escape. This is return.

The SLOJOURN spark

FIRST. Just 14 beachfront bures on 500 acres – intimacy becomes a living, breathing ritual.

SECOND. Regenerative by design – from off-grid energy to soil-restoring agriculture.

THIRD. Fijian stewardship at every level – community isn’t an add-on, it’s the island’s architecture.

Each bure is a haven of elemental ease; high-ceilinged, timber-framed, and surrounded by sea grapes and palms. Expect: locally woven rugs, custom-carved four-poster beds, and outdoor showers that scent the air with frangipani. A shaded daybed faces the sea; your toes touch sand in ten steps.

There are no televisions, no tech distractions - only the whisper of tide, the scent of woodsmoke, and the slow hush of island wind. Comfort meets intention. This is what it feels like to be held by a home made from earth and care.

The art of living

Awaken with birdsong. Bathe beneath the open sky. Spend your day in silence or song - journaling, sailing, foraging, receiving coconut oil massages in forest pavilions. There are no schedules, only invitations. Turtle invites you to eat when hungry, rest when tired, and reconnect in ways you thought you’d forgotten. Slow isn’t just welcomed - it’s worshipped.

WE SLOJOURNED HERE

“Turtle Island left an imprint I didn’t expect. I came to rest and found myself listening again - to land, to quiet, to others. It wasn’t grand gestures that moved me. It was the way they remembered my name, the way time disappeared, and how still I felt in my own skin.”
